Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner. This course teaches the skills of CPR for victims of all ages, including ventilation with a barrier device, use of an AED on adults and children, and relief of foreign body airway obstruction in responsive and non-responsive victims.
Topics include:
Critical concepts of high-quality CPR.
The American Heart Association Chain of Survival.
1-Rescuer/ 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child, and infant.
Differences between adult, child, and infant rescue techniques.
Bag Valve Mask (BVM) techniques for adult, child, and infant.
Rescue breathing for adult, child, and infant.
Relief of choking for adult, child, and infant.
CPR with an advance airway.
Compression/ventilation rate and ratio for a patient who has an advanced airway in place.
BLS (Basic Life Support) is the CPR/AED course required by most states for any medical professional or student enrolled in school for a healthcare profession (MD, CNA, RN, EMT, Phlebotomist, etc.). If you work as a healthcare provider in you are required to carry a current BLS card*.

The BLS Healthcare Provider CPR/AED course is taught in both the classroom and blended Heartcode formats and can be up to 4 hours in length. This course includes a 2-year American Heart Association BLS certification upon successful completion..

This course is designed for individuals who need to renew their BLS certification or who have significant prior knowledge of BLS. It is not recommended for first-time BLS students.

There are TWO parts to the BLS CPR/AED Course:
Part I: at home or office: Online simulation completion

Part II: Book an in-person skills check-off session: manikin practice and skill testing
After completing the online modules, schedule your skills evaluation; the completion certification is required before scheduling your skills session, no exceptions. Online coursework must be complete before attending the skills session. All fees are non-refundable, in whole or in part, once the course is purchased. You will recieve your CPR card via email using the AHA eCard system the same day as your course. Your CPR card will be identical to the classroom-based CPR card.

The BLS Provider course is designed for first-time students and healthcare professionals whose AHA BLS certification has been expired for an extended period. This hands-on course covers adult, child, and infant CPR, AED use, and team-based resuscitation skills — all culminating in a practical skills test.
Upon successful completion, you'll receive your AHA BLS eCard the same day, valid for two years from the date of issue.
BLS Blended Learning — Skills Session
The BLS Skills Session is the in-person component of the AHA HeartCode BLS blended learning course. After completing the HeartCode BLS online module independently, you'll attend a scheduled hands-on skills session where your competency is evaluated and verified.
Please bring your HeartCode completion certificate to your session — same-day AHA eCard issuance upon successful completion.
AHA BLS Provider eCards are valid for 2 years from the issue date. Most hospitals, schools, and employers recognize the AHA standard nationwide.
If your AHA BLS certification is current or nearing expiration and your employer permits a renewal course, the BLS Renewal is the right choice.
If you are new to BLS, have been expired for an extended period, or are transitioning from a non-AHA certification, you will need to book the BLS Provider course.

It is designed specifically for healthcare providers and clinical students.
If you are not in a clinical role, the Heartsaver CPR & AED course is likely the better fit — covering the essential life-saving skills most workplaces, schools, and community programs require.
